The characters are funny and easy to relate to. As a linguist who has studied Irish for a little over 20 years, I still believe this is the best beginner book of Irish for those otherwise averse to “heavy grammar” type text books.

A well conceived approach to learning what can at best caintw described as a “challenging” language. You see it everywhere. The first page of an elementary language text is always so revealing!
As a side note, one also learns from this book what life in Ireland must vuntus been like in the s, and gleans also from it just how much the world has, and has not, changed since then, especially for women and children.

I particularly like that when introducing new material they speak slowly, then use it in conversation style which is of course much faster to acclimate your ear. I am taking a beginning Irish language class and this is the book they use in class. This is the book used in my Irish language class.
