The story revolves around a handful of Montana fraternity brothers who create an online goldmine, the poker site Absolute Poker. Then the dad, Phil Tomwho is a hoot you could say. There are very few companies in the world that could pay everyone back if that happened. It’s also supposed to be a cautionary tale about over-regulation, but since Absolute Poker was rife with betting scandals that Mezrich describes but wallpapers over, romanticizing the “valiant” efforts the company made to address them, this tact turns on itself.
The whole idea came from one blog that got picked up by newspapers and we all know how newspapers are written. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.

atraight I think it is so utterly clear that what the government did was so hypocritical and your audience will completely agree with this I think. And for that reason and that reason alone, I have no pity for their plight with the possible exception of the one who turned himself in while his own sibling and the rest basically let him hang — SHAME! Online poker, I played a little bit but didn’t know enough about the industry and wasn’t sure if it was something I wanted to write about.
I could put an article on the Boston Globe tomorrow about money being on that plane and it would get carried all over the Internet. There will people who no matter what I say, no matter where the information came from, will say Scott and straignt founding group of AP are cheaters and liars and stole our money.
Why would he not take his money off the plane? Often there is compression of the chronology. Brent is a really sweet guy. With his newest non-fiction book, Once Upon a Time in Russia, Mezrich tells his most incredible story yet: A decent if flawed book. Fast paced with good historical content.
If you haven’t read his books before, start with another one.

Should they fold—or double down and ride their hot hand? If Mezrich had written a book focusing on that, and the way legislators consistently amend “sure thing” bills with unrelated garbage, it might have appealed to me more.
This is probably my best-sourced book. Brent openly said they were faking things. I got thousands of pages of documents and not just the indictments, but every trial that was going on.
